What is a Jejemon?

by Bacolod Blogger on April 29, 2010 · 4 comments

Apparently, more and more people particularly in the Philippines are searching for information regarding Jejemons. There’s been a traffic spike for this keyword and since I’m a guerilla blogger, I will take advantage of this keyword trend. But enough of the SEO aspect of this post and lets identify what is a Jejemon.

An in-depth internet search showed that “Jejemon” is synonymous to the “Jologs” term. According to sites like thisĀ one, Jeje’s are a group of individuals noted of their weird way of communication in which leTtERs aRE Alt3RnaTing beTweEn CaPS. The number of “jejemon haters” have risen as well especially in social networking sites such as facebook. It also seems that Jejemons are being branded as low-IQ individuals, squatters and other not-so good descriptions.

Well, as for this issue I have nothing bad to say about these “jejemons” since who am I to judge them all outright? But one thing that I agree with the Jejemon Haters is that the jejemons’ way of writing is indeed hard to comprehend and one can get nauseous reading it. It can really be downright annoying if you are trying to engage in a serious conversation or if the conversation requires formality. I just hope that this would not degrade grammar just like what texting did. Its all right to have style but its entirely different if you break the rules of proper grammar.

What do you think about them Jejemons?Comments/Violent reactions are encouraged just keep it clean!

Homo sapiens evolved to have a natural desire to modify a language or create a slang. This was done in order to differentiate members of the family/ tribe from intruders. In a world of photoshopped avatars and webcam blocking firewalls, how can a group identify each other through text alone? Mainland China changed millenia old Chinese characters into Pinyin, unreadable to Taiwanese, Singaporeans and overseas Chinese among other things to easily spot the foreigners. Chillax, j3jEm0n is just another avatar.
